Serves: 4 for dinner, 8 for appetizers
This recipe is a pretty easy and quick dinner option that your entire family will love and the perfect appetizer for game day. Stromboli is in essence a rolled pizza with classic ingredients like mozzarella, ham, and salami. And for fun, I loaded it with some pepperoni and pepper jack cheese, too. When serving, pair this Classic Stromboli with a warm marinara sauce for dipping.

1 10-12 oz. pizza dough
1 tbsp butter, melted
1 tsp garlic, minced
1/2 cup mozzarella, shredded (I like to shred fresh mozzarella)
12 thin slices of ham
4 oz. Pepper Jack cheese, sliced
15-17 salami slices
1/2 c. shredded mozzarella
15 slices pepperoni
1/2 c. shredded mozzarella
1/4 c. parsley, chopped fine
1 Egg, beaten
2 tbsp Parmesan cheese
cracked black pepper, to taste
more chopped parsley, to garnish
marinara sauce, for dipping
How to make Classic Stromboli
Step 1: Prepare the oven. Preheat it to 375 degrees F.
Step 2: To a lightly floured work surface or square parchment paper, roll the pizza dough into about a 12 x 14-inches triangle. Brush the top with melted butter and sprinkle over the garlic followed by the half cup mozzarella cheese, leaving about 1 to 2 inches border around the long end and two short ends of the dough.
Step 3: Place the 12 slices of ham on top of the cheese followed by the slices of Pepper jack cheese, salami, the rest of the half cup mozzarella, then pepperoni and sprinkle over the remaining half cup mozzarella and parsley.
Step 4: Crack the egg in a small bowl and beat using a fork, then add in a tbsp of water. Coat the three exposed edges of the stromboli with the egg wash using a brush. Tightly roll up the long edge of the stromboli without the egg wash very carefully. Wet your fingertips and seal the seam, then roll the stromboli over so the seam is facing down, and seal the ends with wet fingers.
Step 5: To a baking sheet or pizza stone, transfer the stromboli. Brush with melted butter or the remaining egg wash, then sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and black pepper. Create shallow diagonal cuts on the top of the stromboli using a sharp serrated knife.
Step 6: Place in the preheated oven and bake for about 25 to 30 minutes until the top is brown. Remove from the oven when done and let the stromboli rest for a couple of minutes before chopping it into 8 to 10 slices using a sharp serrated knife.
Step 7: Before serving, garnish with fresh parsley. Enjoy with a warm marinara sauce for dipping.
Notes:
For a whole recipe, you need 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella in total.
You can omit the pepper jack cheese if you are sensitive to spice and simply use all shredded mozzarella.
