Ingredients:
1 single pie crust
For the filling:
3 large Eggs
1 3/4 c buttermilk
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
2 tbsp all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
5 c (about 2 pounds) apples, peeled and sliced (Granny Smith works well)
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
1 c granulated sugar, divided
1/4 tsp salt
For the Topping:
1/3 c brown sugar
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/3 c all-purpose flour
3 tbsp chilled butter, cut into small cubes
Directions:
For the Crust:
Prepare the oven and preheat to 162 degrees C or 325 degrees F.
Unroll the dough into a 14-inch round shape and put it into a 9-inch-deep dish pie pan. Fold the sides of the dough.
Place the crust in the fridge to chill until ready to use.
For the Filling:
Apply cooking spray to a large nonstick skillet. Place it on the stove and turn the heat to medium.
Add the apples, cinnamon, nutmeg, and 1/4 cup of sugar into the preheated skillet. Stir and cook the apples for about 10 minutes.
Move the apple mixture into the prepared crust and spread it evenly.
Add eggs, flour, sugar, vanilla, salt, and buttermilk into a mixing bowl. Whisk everything until well blended.
Transfer the mixture on top of the apple mixture and spread it evenly.
For the Topping:
Add 1/3 cup of flour, cinnamon, and brown sugar into a mixing bowl. Whisk until well incorporated.
Add butter and beat until well blended.
Sprinkle the mixture over the pie.
Turn the heat of the oven down to about 300 degrees F and bake the pie for about 40 minutes.
Remove the pie from the oven and allow it cool for at least an hour at room temperature.
Slice, serve, and enjoy!
